چکیده

Wu, M.J., Zacarias, L. and Reid. M.S., 1991. Variation in the senescence of carnation (Dianthus cao, ophyllus L.) cultivars. II. Comparison o f sensitivity to exogenous ethylene and of ethylene binding. Scientia Hortic., 48:109-116. Flowers o f the 'Sandra' and "Chinera" cultivars o f carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L. ) last about twice as long ( 14 days) as those o f 'Whi te Sim' cultivar (7 days). Application of C2H4 shortened the vase life of all three cultivars. "Chinera' flowers were the least sensitive to C2H4, and "~;~ndra' flowers were more than i 0 times as sensitive. Although 'Sandra" flowers normally produce :cry little Call4, C2H4 treatment induced a climacteric in C2H4 production by this cultivar~ The differences in C2H4 sensitivity could only partly be explained by differences in ethylene-binding activity (number of binding sites and Kd ) in petal tissues from lhe different cultivars.

Effects of 1-MCP and Ethylene on Antioxidant Enzymes Activity and Postharvest Physio-Biochemical Characteristics of Cut Carnation Flower cv. ‘Fortune’

Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) is one of the most important cut flowers in the world. Themajority of thecarnation cultivars are sensitive to ethylene which affected the physiological and biochemical postharvest characteristics of these flowers.Applying inhibitors of biosynthesis and action of ethylene is important factor to protect the display quality and extend postharvest life. In order...

Ethylene Production and Petal Wilting during Senescence of Cut Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) Flowers and Prolonging Their Vase Life by Genetic Transformation

Senescence of carnation flowers is characterized by autocatalytic ethylene production from petals and subsequent wilting of the petals. Recent studies on the regulation of ethylene production and wilting in senescing carnation petals revealed that (1) petal senescence is triggered by ethylene evolved from the gynoecium during natural senescence, (2) ethylene production in the gynoecium is induc...

Role of cytokinins in carnation flower senescence.

Stem and leaf tissues of carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) plants appear to contain a natural antisenescence factor since removal of most of these tissues from cut carnation flowers hastened their senescence. However, kinetin (5-10 mug/ml) significantly delayed senescence of flowers with stem and leaf tissues removed. In addition, the life span of cut flowers with intact (30-cm) stems was incre...

Effect of Wall Colors and Nanosilver Treatment on the Vase Life of Cut Carnation "Express"

Carnation is an important traded crop in many countries. Postharvest senescence is a major limitation to the marketing of many species of cut flowers and considerable effort has been devoted to developing postharvest treatments to extend the marketing period. The split-plot experiment was executed based on two factors randomized complete block design with three replications to examine the effec...

Role of the Ovary in Carnation Senescence

Mot, Y., Reid, M.S. and Kofranek, A.M., 1980. Role of the ovary in carnation senescence. Scientia Hortic., 13: 377--383. Ovary growth in carnation flowers was inhibited by pre-treatments with silver thiosulfate which retarded petal senescence. Although the start of ovary growth preceded visible wilting of untreated flowers, the ovary does not appear to control carnation senescence. Its removal ...
